About the Job

Summary of Position:
A position is immediately available in the lab of Thomas Niehaus (Department of Plant and Microbial Biology, University of Minnesota) for a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to study metabolism in plants and microbes. This work will leverage techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology combined with isotope-enhanced metabolomics to understand metabolic systems and how they contribute to an organism's fitness and adaptability. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in biochemistry, plant physiology, microbiology or a related field, a strong publication record, and experience in one or more of the following areas: metabolomics, protein purification and enzymology, plant and microbial genetics, or plant and microbial metabolism and physiology. The position is for one year, and renewable annually depending on funding and performance. Start date is flexible.

Essential and Other Functions:
75% Research
The postdoctoral scholar will design and carryout experiments to understand the metabolism of plants and/or microbes.

15% Publication and presentation of data
The postdoctoral scholar is expected to communicate their research findings through publication in peer-reviewed research journals and presentation at local and national meetings.

10% Training and mentoring of students
The postdoc will work with undergraduate and graduate students in the lab and is expected to foster the development of junior lab members.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications All applicants must have a PhD in biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in mass spectroscopy, biochemistry, plant and microbial genetics and/or physiology is desired.
