Job Description

The MARFDeactivation subdivision ispreparing for a Defueling and Layup Availability (DLA) planned for execution in FY2025.The MARF defueling and subsequentshipmentofthe spent fueltest cellsfor examinationaretime sensitive andhavedirect impact oncurrent(S1B)andfuturecore designs.Theprojecthas commenced planningwith the shipyard including preparation of the inactivation work packageto define the scope.anddevelopment ofthe defuelingfacility requirements.The KesselringSite(KS)will beresponsible to providethe defueling facilitiesfor the shipyard. Experienced engineersand plannersare neededtocollaboratewith the shipyard(s)and KS organizationstoidentifyand validaterequirements,develop solutions totechnical challenges, and deliver the facilitiesto support the shipyard needs.

Specific assignments include:


  • Support defueling facility design and constructionefforts.
  • Develop plans to identify and provide host yard support services for theDLA. These plans will include evaluations and assessments of equipment and spare parts for reuse.
  • Develop, assess, and execute methods to disposition existing equipment/systems that support the layup. Major projects include radiological source removal, dewatering and severing/isolation of off hull systems, hazardous material removal, ion exchanger capacity test, water management, and component removal.

Applies engineering theory and technical skills to support activities which may include planning, design, operations, construction and maintenance follow and inspection, shipment of materials, testing of components, systems, and equipment; surveillance of manufacturing and quality control practices, tasks associated with the control, accountability, and disposition of nuclear or radioactive materials and hazardous waste; tasks associated with environmental, safety and health with primary focus on safety, inspection/monitoring and technical training. May prepare work instructions and procedures, develop technical processes and machinery/system layout to optimize the flow of work, conduct data collection for engineering analysis and statistical studies, and implement engineering analytical decisions. May apply technical knowledge and experience in the study, development, correction, and prevention of industrial type problems. Makes engineering technology decisions within the organization.

Required Skills

High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of fourteen years of relevant experience; or

Associate degree in technical, engineering, or science-related discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience; or

Bachelor degree in technical, engineering, or science-related discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills

Prior MARF operations and/or servicing experience.

Strong written and oral communication skills.
