Mechanical Supervisor - Waste-to-Energy

Chester, PA

Requires the ability to work rotating shifts or a split shift as needed

What You'll Do:

The Delaware Valley Mechanical Supervisor reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for the overall direction and effective coordination of the Maintenance Department activities. This position ensures that work is properly planned and safely executed in a timely manner for sustainable plant reliability. Specific Responsibilities include:

  • The supervisor will provide direction to department technicians regarding the daily work plan, priority changes and developing solutions to equipment issues
  • Provide oversight to ensure maintenance activities are performed in a safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible manner
  • Provide oversight of planning and execution of maintenance activities to maximize availability/capacity
  • Maintain department work schedules to ensure support of daily work, Major Outages, Minor Outages (Cleaning outages), Forced Outages, and projects
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System to review KPI's, Develop WO plans, manage backlog, and ensure PM/CM optimization
  • Ensure Work orders are scheduled and completed per the weekly/ bi-weekly maintenance schedule
  • Oversee training and development of all departmental staff to ensure technicians are meeting minimum qualifications and are progressing on-schedule
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis for equipment/systems to improve reliability and performance
  • Select, train, and manage new hires in the department to maintain a motivated, diverse-skilled, cross-trained, and technically capable work group
  • Supervises continuous improvement activities through implementation of change management processes and best practices. Create an environment that empowers employees to drive change and improve systems
  • Provides support to the Warehouse for Outage Parts/Material, rental equipment, and contractor support procurement
  • Provide safety audit function for routine and major maintenance work
  • Produce and publish multiple work-related reports

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Remain up to date on recommendations from Boiler Condition Assessment Reports generated by the Boiler Reliability Group. These reports are updated with each major outage and/or equipment inspection
  • Remain up to date on recommendations from Vibration Analysis on a monthly basis

What You'll Bring:

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is highly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years in power plant maintenance including: NBIC Boiler code work, ASME Power piping, job setup and execution planning, job cost and time estimating. Electrical and I/C cost and time estimating desired
  • A minimum of two years prior supervisory experience with greater than four years highly desired
  • A minimum of two years' experience in planning and executing Major Outages, Minor outages, Forced Outages, and projects

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer software experience such as Excel, Word, and data management software.
  • Experience and ability to supervise non-exempt personnel directly
  • Proficient with developing requisitions, ordering inventory parts/materials, and verifying PO status
  • Proficient with using a CMMS for Work Management planning and execution
  • Ability to provide leadership to peer supervisors for daily and routine work direction
  • Ability to mediate conflicting priorities among maintenance department personnel and between operations and maintenance departments
  • Ability to work rotating shifts or a split shift as needed

Time Requirements:

  • Willingness to stay at or return to plant during off-hours (e.g., outside of normal M-F 7am-3pm) and weekends to support plant operability
  • Willingness to support boiler outages (up to 16-hr days) on night shift and/or weekends
  • Willingness to be on-call as needed by department

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to wear a full-face respirator and perform physical activities while wearing the respirator
  • Must be willing to be clean shaven
  • Must be able to do a considerable amount of walking, kneeling, or squatting, standing, and climbing to the various levels of the plant Must be able to enter boilers, ductwork, and confined spaces to perform inspections and check the status of work being performed May have to assist in lifting and/or performing repairs to equipment Must be able to ascend and descend ladders/stairs without issues
