Job Description

The Reactor Performance Engineer is responsible for performing thermal or protection analyses to support the Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier fleet. This includes preparing and executing computer analyses, evaluating the results of those analyses, and determining impacts on reactor plant operations. This may include development and qualification of computer programs and plant models. Documentation of all work, preparation of technical recommendations, and presentation of results will require strong written and verbal communication skills.

The selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary reactor performance analysis team that performs emergent and routine support of the Nimitz Class fleet. This includes ongoing and planned reactor system performance analyses, core manufacturing support, and equipment upgrades. The selected candidate will perform thermal/hydraulic or reactor protection analyses with the opportunity to cross-train between these two disciplines. Interactions with a variety of interface organizations including materials, methods, nuclear, operations, and/or instrumentation and control is expected.

Required Skills

Senior:


  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
  • Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified or EDO and two years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
  • Three years as SRE plus Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only), or
  • SRE qualified and six years of experience

Principal:


  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience; or
  • Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified or qualified SITand threeyears as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
  • Current or previous CRE Qualification, or six years as SRE, or SRE qualified with nine years of experience

Preferred Skills

* Ability to interpret analytical results and operational procedures to formulate a technical recommendation.

* Ability to work on individual assignment(s) as well as being a member of a small team(s).

* Experience in any or all of the following:

- Fluid flow

- Instrumentation and control systems

- Nuclear physics

- Power Plant experience

- Reactor plant dynamics

- Thermodynamics

* Minimum GPA of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
