Job Summary |
A postdoctoral research associate is sought with experience in materials and solid-state chemistry and/or advanced optical characterization of semiconductors, with a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics. Technical experience with structural (
XRD,
SCXRD) and optical characterization (PL/
PLE/
TRPL, Raman, UV-Vis) is required. |
Minimum Education and Experience |
Ph.D in a related field. |
Preferred Education and Experience |
Experience with synthesizing metal halides, chalcohalides, or luminescent semiconductors strongly preferred. Synthesis techniques of interest include solution or hydrothermal syntheses, bulk single crystal synthesis (especially the Bridgman method), and/or semiconducting nanocrystal synthesis - candidate should have a record of expertise in at least one of these areas. Beyond a strong scientific background, postdoctoral fellows need excellent communication skills as they will have the opportunity to work on grant proposal writing, to be independent in preparing technical manuscripts, and to mentor PhD and undergraduate students. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
* Conduct independent research in synthesis and characterization of optoelectronic materials
* Responsible for routine operations of the McCall laboratory, including equipment maintenance, safety training, and chemical and purchase inventory.
* Organize and prepare reports for research operations and sponsors
* Supervise student research assistants on day-to-day basis and interface with collaborators and technical staff.
* Participate in manuscript writing/preparation, conference talks/posters, manuscript/proposal review, and proposal writing. |
