OVERVIEW

Consumer Reports has a rich history of fighting for a fair, just, and equitable marketplace, and of striving to sustain this legacy in everything the organization does as a social enterprise. As part of the necessary national conversation on race and justice, CR's leaders have reflected on the state of its own culture and the sense of belonging felt by everyone who works for-and with-CR. Through collective dialogue, staff and managers have learned that, when it comes to enriching how people experience diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as workers and consumers, we have made great strides along the way, and that there is more work to do.

CR's new Associate Director of DEI Programs will be a critical supporter of the work ahead by 1) working with the Chief DEI Officer to assess where might there be opportunities to adjust principles, policies, and practices in line with the DEI mission and vision, and 2) collaborating with several internal stakeholders and external partners to support generative action planning and execution that make a positive difference in people's experiences and in the enterprise impact.

Under our CRFlex program, this position is eligible for Fully Remote status for candidates who live more than 75 miles from one of our main office locations (Yonkers, NY, Washington DC, Colchester, CT). Additionally, the successful candidate must reside in one of the following locations: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C.



THE OPPORTUNITY

In this position, you will support leaders in their execution of DEI strategy and commitments to be an equitable, anti-racist, diverse, accessible, and inclusive organization. This position reports to the Chief DEI Officer, and is empowered to support improvement efforts, implement DEI programs that clarify accountabilities and learning moments, and reinforce positive outcomes when they happen at individual, interpersonal, and organizational levels. These actions will come through the incumbent's work on three key accountabilities: operationalizing equity, strengthening inclusion, and amplifying thought leadership and communication. The Associate Director will have varied job responsibilities; among other things you will:

    Partner with leaders at different levels to make DEI-focused current state assessments, identify potential solutions, and influence steps for concrete action planning. Collaborate with the CDO, DEI Council, and other constituents to develop and execute short term and long-term DEI business strategies.
  • Develop and implement DEI capability development programs and initiatives to support enterprise strategies and individual support needs.
  • Conduct equity and inclusion audits of enterprise and team initiatives. Monitor the progress of enterprise DEI commitments to help ensure they are proceeding in the planned strategic direction.
  • Partner with People & Culture to support initiatives to bolster employee engagement, retention and advancement.
  • Manage communication of CR's DEI principles, plans, progress, and supplementary narratives. Inform and equip leaders and staff with information regarding DEI best practices and skill-building resources.
  • Collaborate with partners and leaders to influence policies and identify resources needed to create an inclusive environment.


ABOUT YOU

You'll Be Highly Rated If:

  • You have at least 5 years of experience leading and managing a comprehensive diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or engagement plans for an organization.
  • You have experience establishing and maintaining meaningful connections with communities of historically marginalized groups, staff and leaders to promote trust, collaboration, and partnership to foster supportive, solutions-focused, and respectful interactions.
  • You have experience designing and implementing DEI programs that include adult learning and teaching plans that build skills for operating with an equity lens.
  • You have experience leveraging knowledge of the latest DEI research and best practices for organizations striving to become more equitable, anti-racist, diverse, and inclusive.

  • You have an academic background in social work, psychology, education or related fields, as well as gaining understanding of cultural values, norms, and resources of various communities, particularly of communities of color, LGBTQ+ and various demographic and generational cohorts.
  • You have demonstrated excellence in developing and managing project plans, and successfully delivering on planned timelines, and proper documentation needs.
  • You have provided support and training to staff at various levels. Experience in doing this work with nonprofit organizations is not required but preferred.
