Overview

The Vermont Attorney General's Office (AGO) seeks a talented and motivated attorney to join the team providing legal services to the second largest Agency in state government. The Agency of Transportation (AOT) directly serves all Vermonters by maintaining the State's transportation infrastructure including highway, rail and aviation assets, as well as the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). While the position is organizationally within the General Counsel and Administrative Law Division of the Attorney General's Office, the AAG will be embedded with the Agency at Barre City Place in downtown Barre, VT, approximately six miles from the state capital, Montpelier.

Description

Legal work as an AAG with AOT involves a diverse practice and presents the opportunity to do meaningful work in a collegial and supportive environment. Typical work in the Transportation Legal Unit includes general counseling and litigation spanning many legal subjects, including real property law, environmental law, tort law, contract law, administrative law, motor vehicle law, railroad law, aviation law, and construction law, among others. The general counseling work also involves advising on transportation policies, legislation, procurement practices, administrative rulemaking, and federal regulations affecting transportation, grants and other agreements. Members of the AOT Legal Unit regularly appear in federal and state courts, as well as administrative forums, including the Transportation Board and the district environmental commissions for the Natural Resources Board.

Compensation

This AAG position is an exempt full-time position and salary will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the . This limited-service position is funded through September 30, 2026 with the possibility of renewal and includes the full State of Vermont benefit package. Minimum Requirements

Candidates must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar or be able to gain this status in a reasonable amount of time after selection.New attorneys will also be considered and can expect to gain experience with strong mentorship if selected. Litigation experience and a familiarity with public sector contract law, administrative law, environmental law, construction law or transportation law will be favorably considered.
