Position Description:

Blue Origin is committed to building a future where millions of people live and work in space to benefit Earth. We must return to the Moon permanently, and the Blue Moon Lander enables this goal. Blue Moon is a large, flexible, reusable commercial lander for cargo or crew.

Lunar Transportation is Blue Origin's team dedicated to developing mission architectures such as our planned Lunar Lander program, Blue Moon (Link: ).

Our Lunar Pathfinder mission will demonstrate the lander's core capabilities - including the privately funded BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and sophisticated coordinated power and propulsion architecture - on an early New Glenn flight. The team building this vehicle is rethinking how space systems are crafted, with a high-performing architecture, efficient reusability, and rapid design iteration. As part of a hardworking team of spacecraft development engineers, you will own the verification and validation process of GN&C algorithms within a model-based design workflow for a lunar lander. You will be responsible for implementing modeling standards, developing unit and regression testing frameworks, and implementing continuous integration pipelines. You will own the formulation and implementation of processes for guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) software development through the verification process.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of a model-based software development plan
  • Support development of a library of verified software utilities for use in flight software across multiple programs, requirements-based unit tests for software components, and model-based software verification process
  • Apply state-of-the-art model standards and write automated model checks to enforce standards
  • Manage and automate the software development life cycle
  • Support the Lunar Lander program in implementation and adaptation of the software development plan and verification process
Qualifications:
  • B.S. in aerospace engineering or related technical subject area
  • Experience in GN&C algorithm development,implementing software standards and ensuring compliance (e.g., MISRA), and configuration management software such as Subversion, GIT, PVCS
  • Expertise in Matlab/Simulink, Simulink Test, Embedded Coder, and Embedded Real-Time Target
  • Proficient with Design Assurance Level (DAL) software levels
  • Mastery in configuration and product data management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired (but not required):

  • M.S. or PhD in aerospace engineering or related technical subject area
  • Demonstrated experience in development of GN&C software for aerospace vehicles
  • Experience in full lifecycle development of GN&C software on spacecraft
  • Familiar with DO-178C and DO-331
  • Experience in spaceflight GN&C hardware, software, operations, and/or ground support
  • Familiarity with requirements databases such as DOORS/DNG, Cameo
  • Familiarity with Hardware in the Loop and Processor in the Loop verification and validation efforts
  • Knowledgeable withperforming system safety analyses including Functional Hazard Assessments; Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analyses; and Fault Tree Analysis
  • Experience with Simulink Design Verifier; Simulink Verification, Validation, and Test;collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
