HX5 is currently seeking a Radiation Effects Scientist to support the Nuclear Weapons Acquisition Division, AFNWC/NDB. This Division is responsible for developing, testing, and producing systems and components related to nuclear strategic weapon systems for our nation's warfighters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Assist the LRSO Program Chief Engineer in the assessment of contractor conducted System Engineering Technical Review and Knowledge Point reviews.
  • Perform engineering tasks, research, studies, and analyses that provide engineering and technical assessments for the program office's problem definition, requirement development, plus system analyses of the offeror's approach to mitigate, harden, and test the LRSO CM against ionizing radiation effects to include High-altitude Electro-Magnetic Pulse (HEMP).
  • Conduct and support all engineering and technical activities required during the technology maturation and risk reduction plus the engineering, manufacture, and design acquisition phases.
  • Evaluate potential radiation simulation errors that might generate false test conclusions.
  • Participate in and support the trade studies activities associated with the system architecture design, providing the LRSO chief engineer assessments of the strengths and weaknesses of candidate architectures to radiation effects.
  • Assess contractor's proposed radiation test plans for both radiation simulation fidelity and appropriateness of test conditions to assure a complete and conservative result.
  • Travel to various radiation test facilities as required and participate/witness contractor's radiation tests of piece-parts, sub-assemblies, and larger levels of integration.
  • Support radiation testing for total ionizing dose, dose rate and neutron effects (damage and single event effects).
  • Assess planned radiation test data capture for fidelity and completeness of hardness conclusions.
  • Review contractor's radiation test analyses for appropriate statistical treatment to meet program requirements of probability of success with a given confidence.
  • Review contractor's worst case circuit analyses for assessment of radiation failure levels and design margins.


Education and Experience Requirement



  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of professional experience; or
  • Master's degree and three (3) years of professional experience


Must be a US Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance by date of hire.

Must be able to travel as required. (10%-25%)
