Essential Functions |
Essential Functions:
- Beginning treatments and admitting patients to IMC or ICU, Ability to observe and record vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, and collect and labels specimens and perform treatments, administer medications as prescribed by primary veterinarian, record verbal patient history and communication and relay to appropriate staff
- Recover patients from anesthetic procedures.
- Performs, instructs, and demonstrates advanced veterinary care techniques and procedures related to critical care medicine.
- Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques, including CPR. Knowledge of mechanical ventilator use preferred.
- Inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observes health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.
- Perform job duties with speed and accuracy and work as essential personnel, providing care for patients that can include occasional after hours, on weekends and holidays.
- Assist various departments with patient care and diagnostic procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Depending on the combination of education and experience, selected candidates may be hired as a Veterinary Technician and assigned Levels I, II, or
III. Salary range determined by eligibility for Level I, II, or
III.
Consideration for entry-level Veterinary Technician requires:
1. Associate's degree or higher in a technical or scientific field related to the area of assignment.
2. Active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician, have met all requirements to become licensed, or have passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam (
VTNE). Veterinary Technician certification or license must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
Level II requires the above plus 2 years of experience in Veterinary Technology or in the care and comfort of animals.
Level
III requires the above plus 4 years of experience in Veterinary Technology or in the care and comfort of animals. |
