Head of U.S. Pork Improvest & Technical Services

The Head of U.S. Pork Improvest & Technical Services is a proactive leader, a member of the Pork Leadership Team, and plays an important role in

reinforcing and communicating the Zoetis Pork strategy. Additionally this role will have the responsibility of managing the Improvest business and team.

The Head of U.S. Pork Improvest & Technical Services will:

Align with the Regional Business Director to strategically deploy PTS resources to maximize the impact of appropriate use of Zoetis products and services.

Drive a positive team culture built upon the foundation of Zoetis vision, core beliefs and leader behaviors

Lead by delivering quality feedback and coaching to help maximize the potential of colleagues and help train to meet and exceed core competencies for the role

Effectively manage resources to achieve the above by leading and coaching a team that will include Technical Services Veterinarians, including team members at the Senior or Managing level, and Improvest team members.

Provide superior customer, scientific and field force improvest support so that Zoetis may achieve a sustainable competitive advantage

Enhance the professional and scientific image of Zoetis

Engage as a member of the Livestock Technical Services Leadership Team to ensure consistency across all segments of the livestock business from a technical management and development standpoint.

Lead the Improvest business and colleagues directly associated with that business

* Provide strategic insight to ensure Improvest is implemented and executed across the targeted customer base to achieve all business goals.

Collaborate with Sales/Marketing and Technical around the Improvest customer implementation

Manage the P & L for Improvest and its associated team

*The preferred location would be within the region IA, IL, MN

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES

General

Ensure that all actions reflect Zoetis Core Beliefs Leader Behaviors

Lead and manage a team of veterinarians that serve as principle scientific advisors to the sales force and customers, partners to the Area Business Managers, coaches to the field force, and represent the voice of science to their teams

* Provides leadership, direction and management for TS Veterinarians and the Improvest team.

Ensure Pork Technical Services is fully aligned with the strategies of the business and provides technical support to execute those business strategies

Ensure the Improvest team is fully aligned with the strategies of the business and provides the relevant support to execute and implement those strategies

Supply strategic support to marketing and other stakeholders, and develop processes and relationships to execute the strategies

Hire, develop, and coach the technical expertise of the group; identify opportunities to leverage the unique skill set and strengths of the team to support both internal and external customers

Provide feedback and high-level coaching to direct reports to drive positive culture and performance

Lead cross-functional teams as needed to advise and influence management at all levels of Zoetis on technical issues; collaborate effectively with sales, marketing, GCD, VMRD, Regulatory Affairs, Legal Affairs, Public Affairs, etc.

Ensures successful partnerships with enabling and platform function groups, including but not limited to Global Manufacturing Services ("GMS"), Veterinary Medicine and Research & Development ("VMRD"), Commercial Development and Lifecycle Management, and Business Development to enable the achievement of business goals

Inquiries: Provide sound technical advice on routine inquiries and act as a resource to assist other team members with inquiries

Complaints: Respond effectively to customer complaints and fulfill regulatory requirements and corporate guidelines with respect to adverse event reporting

Marketing Support: As requested, contribute to the development of marketing plans and materials for technical and contextual accuracy, medical appropriateness, and utility to producers and practitioners; provide strategic input into the development of marketing plans and materials

VMRD and GCD: Participate on new product teams as requested; be recognized as a vital contributor to cross-functional teams; take initiative in proposing strategic new projects; demonstrate ability to identify gaps in product portfolio and prepare input on business development

Management Role

Collaborate as a member of the Livestock Technical Services Leadership Team (LTSLT)

Help lead the general management and formation of long-term PTS and Improvest team strategies and policies in support of Zoetis Pork business strategies

Personnel Management:

Lead and manage a team of veterinarians by delivering quality feedback, mentoring, and coaching. At least 60% of the time, champions, reinforces, and coaches members of PTS team

Emphasize IDPs - assist and guide direct reports in their knowledge, skill, and career development to maximize their impact on the business and achieve their career aspirations

Manages the performance of direct reports including review of annual objectives, establishes performance standards and metrics, and oversees annual performance appraisals,

Budget responsibilities:

Effectively manage assigned operating expenses and Zoetis assets

Timely monitoring and approval of expense reports for direct reports

Effectively manage the P & L for Improvest that generates $4M in annual sales and its implementation within the targeted customers

Key Customer Contacts

Work collaboratively with marketing and sales to leverage the skills of the PTS team to provide scientific education/training to internal and external customers

Develop strong working relationship with Regional Business Director (RBD) in assigned business by frequent proactive communications, close alignment and timely execution of strategy, and honest and direct bi-directional feedback.

Develop strong working relationship with Area Business Managers (ABM) to ensure the aligned Technical Services Specialist is providing necessary support and appropriate strategic alignment.

Ensure Improvest team properly executes and implements the Improvest management processes.

Ensure Improvest team communicates with field sales colleagues as appropriate regarding Improvest account information.

Be recognized as acredible representative of Zoetis within the veterinary profession

Attend and contribute to selected professional organizational activities

REQUIRED JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent

5 years of experience in clinical practice, academia, research or industry

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Proven leadership ability to drive positive culture and performance

Learning and change agility

Strategic thinking and matrix management skills

Performance management

Ability to influence and persuade without positional power

Strong relationship building skills

Demonstrated track record of delivering financial commitments including budgetary management

Travel requirement of 40-60%

PREFERRED CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Five (5) years or more private practice experience

Two (2) years or more industry experience

Experience in building highly effective teams

Excellent judgment in leading through change and influencing
