The laboratory uses gene editing to engineer and then study unique human cell models of cancer-associated mutations in spliceosome genes and validates findings in primary human patient samples. Biological studies include analysis of mutation-induced RNA splicing, proteome changes, and diverse cellular pathway alterations including those in energy metabolism. Therapeutic studies include targeting metabolic weaknesses, characterizing therapeutic antibody targets, and developing novel immunotherapeutic modalities against spliceosome-mutant cells.

The Dalton Laboratory exists in the State-of-the-Art Bunting Blaustein Cancer Research Building and is part of the Hematologic Malignancies Department at the Sidney Kimmel Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Cancer Center.
