Senior Software Engineer, Test

Genesys Cloud Services, Inc.
United States, Florida
February 03, 2023

A Sr Software Engineer, Test contributes with a high degree of proficiency to the efforts of a particular development team and provides technical leadership within the Testing organization. Leadership activities involve coordinating complex projects, presenting and mentoring on testing philosophies, and helping others to understand Genesys Cloud architecture and integration among services. Sr SETs assist Lead SETs to define "the art of testing" and make that vision into a reality through their mentorship of other testers and involvement with the development process.

Sr SETs are proficient at automating simple and complex test cases targeting APIs and UIs using one or more languages. Sr SETs also provide helpful feedback on peer code reviews to help their peers develop coding skills. Sr SETs identify areas to contribute and improve shared testing frameworks and often direct others to make those improvements.

Candidates for this position have a firm understanding of the system architecture. When presented with a system-level problem, they proficiently isolate the misbehaving service and use tools to identify improper scaling, failed deploys, queue backups, and missing resources. Others can rely on a Sr SET for explanations of why the product works as it does and for details of recent new features. Good candidates for this position understand the needs and processes of other departments including Development, Product Management, Sales, Support, and Professional Services.

Sr SETs develop into Lead SETs by proving their ability to lead others to accomplish significant tasks both in feature testing and test framework improvements. They advance by contributing to our processes and techniques in out-of-the-box ways that prove to increase quality and velocity. Candidates for promotion beyond Sr SET are those who show a strong ability to bring others up to their level.
