HX5, in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center, is currently seeking a Hybrid Gas Turbine Modeling Engineer. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Establish a database of propulsion dynamics models based on empirical data and physics-based analytical methods that are relevant to the analysis and design of hybrid gas turbine engines (i.e., traditional turbojet propulsion systems coupled with electrically powered fan propulsion systems).
- Propose extensions of current modeling capabilities to include relevant physics associated with hybrid gas turbine propulsion systems.
- Develop a roadmap for the development of new or extended models, computational tools, and validation tests.
- Assess current component design methodologies and identify design-system methodology gaps and gap-closure requirements.
Required Skills:
- Extensive experience with the analysis of gas turbine engines as applied to the aerodynamic design of components such as fans, compressors, and turbines.
- Experience with one-, two-, and three-dimensional methods for the aerodynamic design and analysis of turbomachinery components.
- Experience applying CFD codes to perform the aerodynamic design of fan and compressor airfoils.
Other Desired Skills:
- Experience with multi-disciplinary design optimization tools.
- Familiarity with Risk Management and analysis methods.
- Familiarity with Knowledge Management methods to capture and integrate previous efforts and lessons learned.
- Familiarity with integrating the propulsion technical and business decision making processes.
- Ability to work well in a team setting with propulsion engineers making diverse technical contributions with on-site and remote employees.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical material.
Education/Experience:
Doctorate degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and 20+ years of experience.
Other Position Requirements:
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
