Responsibilities

Working across programs and engineering directorates, the Weapon systems Architect will develop and execute a technical strategy for a portfolio of Draper solutions in weapon systems. Responsibilities include shaping development of programs to address needs and identifying a path to transition the solution into use. A successful candidate will be a highly motivated strategic thinker with experience in leading complex technical programs that leverage Draper's weapon systems technologies and model-based engineering capability.

Specific responsibilities will include:

    Work with other senior leaders in engineering and program directorates to engage potential customers on mission level challenge problems. Collaborate with customers to define weapon systems requirements and constraints.
  • Lead the analysis of concept of operations and development of quantitative data driven frameworks to solve operational precision weapon challenges.
  • Develop system requirements, and analyze cost/schedule and success/failure tradeoffs. In collaboration with program management, develop customer engagement strategy, shape programs and deliver superior solutions.
  • Drive strategic planning and lead activities in support of long range and near term weapon systems development plans. Guide and manage teams during all phases, from concept development to fielding of systems. Serve as a thought leader in the precision weapon system domain.

Work closely with cross-functional teams to uncover and address strategic technology development and business development opportunities. Execute complex assignments with minimal management direction. Mentor technical staff and development teams to successfully work to deadlines, often while successfully managing to multiple competing priorities



Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or equivalent with 3-5 or more years of relevant experience in enhancing National Security through the application of advanced technology to system level solutions. The qualified candidate must have working knowledge of Army, Navy and/or Air Force mission areas and specifically how precision weapons are used across platforms in mission execution.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other leading national experts in science and technology from academia, national laboratories, and industry who may have ongoing competing priorities and viewpoints, is a must.
  • The qualified candidate must be performance driven, a self-starter and have demonstrated the ability to set organizational vision and achieve results. Strong ability to couple conceptual level thinking, creativity and resourcefulness with detailed execution and ability to work within a team environment are a must. Willingness to travel is necessary.
    • Ability to create and present senior level communications for system level architecture discussions. Working knowledge of modeling and simulation for multi-disciplinary complex systems.
  • Promote Draper expertise and leverage current technology standards to influence and innovate. Expertise with Systems Engineering government or industry standards
  • Understanding of the DOD or other Federal agency budgeting process, solicitations and acquisition processes
