Applicants are invited to apply for full-time Researcher 3 positions in the laboratory of Michael Lipscomb for highly motivated candidates interested in basic and translational studies in immunology. For more information, please visit: Current NIH funded projects in the Lipscomb laboratory focus on delineating the immunomodulatory mechanisms that govern antigen presenting myeloid cell functions and the development of innovative immunotherapies to combat intracellular pathogens and alleviate autoimmune and immunodeficiency disorders. Candidates will engage in laboratory approaches employing use of multipanel flow cytometric analyses and sorting, qPCR arrays and scRNAseq transcriptome profiling, protein-protein interaction and signaling assays, multiplex luminex analyses, biomaterial organoid assembly and delivery, and RNAi and Crispr-Cas9 gene editing, among other techniques, to answer questions related to immunobiology. Studies use knockout/in transgenic mouse models for in vivo and ex vivo analyses of immune cell functioning and development under both steady state and inflammatory settings.

Primary responsibilities:

Specific technical/bench-work research (90%):
- Conduct investigations and performing in vivo and ex vivo immune-based studies/experimentations
using mice model systems per principal investigator
- Independently create and plan experiments based on knowledge of the field, ganed by researching
relevant literature and working with other researchers in a collaborative fashion
- Execute experiments using methods created according to previously published methods or novel
methods developed as needed
- Analyze data collected from experiments. Synthesize data in an easily readable format and prepare
graphs, charts, tables and reports of data. Derive the theoretical basis for experimental data and fit data
to theory and analysis of error.
- Write routine summary reports on results of work and confers with supervisors on interpretation of
results and avenues of investigation
- Contributing to and writing research findings for publications, grants, and other documents
- Manage animal colony and genotyping, which includes screening, weaning, and genotyping
- Usage of major research instrumentation for readout indices to determine functional outcomes

General laboratory management duties (10%):
- Perform routine genotyping for maintenance and management of animal colonies
- Make standard laboratory reagents (PBS and other buffers, LB media, Agar Plates, DMEM etc), keep
the laboratory stocked and clean, and maintain all laboratory equipment.
- Assist in managing daily laboratory operations (ordering supplies, receiving, inventory management).
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment

Required Qualifications:
- B.S. in any biological, biomedical or biochemistry-related field(s) and 2+ years' research-related experience in immunology studies [OR] a combination of education and experience to equal 6+ years
- Willingness to work with mice in research
- Ability to multitask, organize work flow, prioritize goals and work independently with minimal guidance
- Knowledge of principles, concepts, practices and methods in biomedical research to solve relatively
complex research-related problems and work assignments
- Able to solve relatively complex research-related work assignments/problems

Preferred Qualifications:
- Research experience working with antigen presenting myeloid cells and/or T cells in vivo or in vivo
- Research experience working with infectious disease models (i.e. viral/bacterial pathogen challenges in
vivo) and/or experienced use of autoimmune models (i.e. NOD, Mdr1a-/- models)
- Knowledge and experience in use of flow cytometry, Luminex/ELISA, fluorescence microscopy and
qPCR
- Prior experience in small animal (i.e. mice) handling, survival surgeries, blood withdrawal and injections
- Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- Past experience working in collaborative environments
