(Senior) Director PPA and Origination - Commercial Asset Optimisation

Your responsibilities

We are looking for a Director/Senior Director, PPAs and Structured Origination, to lead and build out our Corporate & Industrial (C&I) business in the Americas. The candidate will be responsible for the origination, structuring and execution of PPAs and other commercial contracts to provide offtake for our investments in Wind, Solar and Battery projects to maximize commercial value. In this role you will be building up customer and industry relationships with a particular focus on C&I, represent RWE as a company in relevant networking events, attract businesses, all with the ultimate goal to build up RWE's commercial capabilities.This role is based in Chicago (no remote position, hybrid work possible).
Candidate ideally has experience working with C&I customers on sustainability initiatives, RE 100 and net-zero targets, and ESG.

  • Responsible for soliciting, qualifying, securing, managing, negotiating and executing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with a particular focus on non-utility customers (C&I, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with all energy customers and organize, manage and lead the effort of responding to request for proposals (RFPs)
  • Coordinate terms & conditions of all contracts and transactions with Legal, Finance, Development, Engineering, Construction and Operations and secures all necessary signoffs and approvals by senior management
  • Provide an energy marketing perspective of ideal regions to target for the future development of projects including a solid understanding of renewable portfolio standards, REC values, forward energy curves, target customers, and congestion
  • Participate in relevant industry conferences and other events to foster the knowledge of the company as an industry leader
  • Communicate and provide regular updates on energy marketing developments to engineering, transmission, development, construction, partnering, operations, and financial personnel to ensure appropriate focus

Your profile

  • Bachelor's / Master's Degree in a energy, business, sustainability, economics, engineering, or related field.
  • Track record of successful commercial contract negotiations in the renewable energy industry. Very familiar with the energy market structures of the different US power markets/ISOs
  • Detailed understanding of energy economics and particularly renewable energy assets commercial risk. Expert in reading, understanding, negotiating and amending PPA's
  • Broad expertise and experience in project management, among others, enable you to familiarize yourself quickly with the relevant topics and issues in our Group
  • Natural leader, comfortable in establishing cross departmental collaboration and relationships
  • Being seen as trustworthy, inspiring and authentic with a sense of humor and with a good eye for the development of your sector, the company, and yourself
  • Excellent communication skills combined with very strong negotiation and leadership skills. Highly motivated to work your way into any less familiar fields
  • Self-driven, self-confident, persuasive and assertive but diplomatic
