Staff Civil Engineer (Water Resources)
Location: Grand Rapids or Novi, MI
Job Summary
Fishbeck is actively seeking a talented Civil Engineer to work with our water resource team in our Grand Rapids or Novi office. This position requires self-motivation, commitment to high-quality work performance, excellent planning, organization, and communication skills and the ability to work with other staff in a project team environment. These positions will provide a variety of learning and development experience for the right candidate.
Primary Functions


  • Perform design calculations, quantify bid items, develop cost estimates, execute Civil3D drafting and prepare reports.
  • Plan and design stormwater and floodplain projects, including site layout, grading, stormwater management, and utilities while working with multi-discipline teams.
  • Work closely with other technical staff from all Fishbeck offices to provide utility and drainage design and other related engineering services, mainly for Drain Commissioners, local municipalities, Universities, non-profit group, and Tribal Communities.
  • Interact daily with project teams in a multi-disciplinary and multi-office environment.



Minimum Physical Requirements
Occasionally exposed to light lifting, sitting, and walking. May perform duties in the field and will be required to access and maneuver around project sites. Capable of traveling to and from projects is required. Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes. Visual acuity to perform responsibilities
Desired Education
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Desired Skills/Experience


  • Successfully passed FE (EIT) Exam.
  • Strong interest in stormwater/floodplain management.
  • Civil 3D and ArcGIS experience.
  • Hydrologic/hydraulic modeling experience in programs including HEC-RAS, EPA SWMM, WINTR-55.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
