This position is a grade 15 with a minimum of $56,925 and a mid-point of $75,900. Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College's compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:


An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty by ensuring that students with disabilities are provided the assistive technology, accessible text, and other tools that they need to access their course(s) in compliance with all applicable laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, in collaboration with faculty and other staff. Work is distinguished by the ability to provide ongoing case management, follow-up, and support to students regarding testing accommodations, assistive technology, and alternate format materials, and engage with staff, faculty, and administrators to promote equity, inclusive practices, universal design, and accessibility while reframing disability from a diversity perspective. General direction is received by the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:




  1. Master's 's degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Assistive Technology, Instructional Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, and one to two years of experience working directly with individuals with disabilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Considerable knowledge of and considerable skill in using assistive technology, including but not limited to adaptive equipment, apps, screen reading software (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver), screen magnification software (e.g., ZoomText), speech-to-text software (e.g., Dragon Naturally Speaking), text-to-speech software (e.g., Kurzweil), keyboard-only software, Braille transcription/translation software (e.g., TactileView, Duxbury), accessible hardware (e.g., CCTVs, ergonomic keyboards and mice, monitors, refreshable Braille displays and notes, Smartpens, etc.).
  3. Considerable knowledge of and considerable skill in using PDF remediation software (i.e., CommonLook, Codemantra), Adobe Acrobat Pro, and other relevant software needed to support students and complete the general functions of the role.
  4. Good knowledge of learning, psychological, health, neurological, physical, and sensory disabilities as well as barriers associated with those disabilities
  5. Good knowledge of applicable concepts, such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), the social model of disability, and accessibility.
  6. Considerable skill in verbal and written communication, including, but not limited to, skill in accurately and legibly scribing for students' tests/quizzes and accurately and effectively reading students' tests/quizzes.
  7. Considerable skill in resourceful problem solving and decision-making regarding issues related to scope of position.
  8. Ability to work independently and as a team.
  9. Ability to work in a dynamic environment and be responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
  10. Working skill in document scanning processes and eBook creation systems.
  11. Demonstrated abilities in independently organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced work environment.
  12. Working skill in documenting student case notes in the appropriate electronic system(s).
  13. Ability to understand and follow FERPA privacy guidelines to ensure student confidentiality.
  14. Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access and Publisher
  15. Considerable skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  16. Working skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  17. Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
  18. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required by the department's needs.



Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



Experience in Ellucian Colleague and Desire2Learn (D2L) is preferred.



Essential Duties:




  1. Ensure that students with disabilities are provided the assistive technology they need to access their course(s).
  2. Design, develop, and deliver one-on-one or small group presentations on assistive technology for students with learning, visual, hearing, physical, and other disabilities.
  3. Assess student technological skill levels and verify eligibility for assistive technology usage. Determine and recommend appropriate assistive technology to students; assist students in accessing course materials and textbooks using assistive technology.
  4. Develop training materials and train students on how to use assistive technology specific to access course materials and textbooks. Manage the Alternate Format Textbook (AFT) Production Program, which includes the request system and the quality assurance of materials in various formats, including e-text, e-music, Braille, tactile graphics, enlarged print, etc.
  5. Prepare print materials for electronic conversion. This includes scanning and reassembling any students' copies into a reusable print or digital format to accommodate eligible students.
  6. Remediate materials, including textbooks, for accessibility.
  7. Collaborate with Student Access & Disability Services employees to provide specialized Testing Accommodations, which includes enabling the use of assistive technology, scheduling private testing rooms, reading tests, and scribing for students' tests.
  8. Collaborate with staff, faculty, administrators, and external service providers to ensure provision of reasonable accommodations. Adhere to and keep current with ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable laws, regulations, and best practices pertaining to students with disabilities in higher education.
  9. Maintain accurate case files and required data for reporting system(s) to ensure student progress is documented and compliant with applicable regulations. Submit accurate and timely reports to the director. Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and adhere to ethical standards.
  10. Follow all College policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines as they relate to this position.
  11. Actively participate on various teams or committees.
  12. Participate in/support professional development activities (e.g., Webinar recordings, training installation and setup, team and/or group trainings, etc.)
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
