Nature of Work: Summary:
This is manual labor assisting automotive mechanics in the servicing of light through heavy equipment and in repair operations.

Education equivalent experience:
Essential:
* Enrollment in, or completed coursework in, an automotive technology or related course.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Competencies and skills:
Essential:
* Knowledge of vehicle and equipment lubrication, tire changing and repair, and battery charging equipment and procedures.
* Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in working on or near vehicles and equipment.
* Knowledge of and ability to operate a computer or other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks.
* Skill in the use of tools and equipment necessary to perform the work of the position.
* Ability to understand oral or written instructions.
* Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public.
* Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software.

Essential Functions: (Any one position may not perform all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all of the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this classification.)

Detailed responsibilities:
* Learns duties as assigned by a supervisor to expand knowledge in the automotive service and repair field and performs those duties once learned.
* Assists in performing minor maintenance and preventative maintenance repairs on light and heavy vehicles and equipment, including changing oil and filters, fuses, batteries, spark plugs, shock absorbers, water pumps, starters, hoses, v-belts, tires, lights and light bulbs, and topping off fluid levels.
* Assists in inspecting vehicles for servicing needs.
* Assists mechanics with equipment repairs.
* Cleans shop areas.
* Prepares and maintains computerized records, reports, and logs associated with vehicle maintenance and repair, direct and indirect labor, and parts and materials used and/or ordered.
* Cleans and maintains tools required to complete repairs.
* Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor.
* Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.

Special Qualifications:

Pay Range: $23.29 Hourly
