Internal Auditor

The Internal Auditor is an early career professional who is developing auditing skills. The Internal Auditor is primarily responsible for participating in audit projects of Aon business units to evaluate the adequacy of internal controls in both design and application. The Internal Auditor is also responsible for performing and/or assisting in corporate investigations, ad-hoc special projects and Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance activities.

What the day will look like

  • Participating in audits evaluating the adequacy of controls for Aon business units and/or key business processes. Included in this responsibility are:
    • Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of assigned areas under review, including processes, risks and controls, and is able to document the processes accurately and completely.
    • Completing audit test procedures, including maintaining appropriate testing documentation to support audit results.
    • Identifying and communicating audit findings noted from the review to the Audit Project Manager / Senior Audit Manager
    • Confirming all audit findings with management to ensure full understanding, including the existence of any mitigating controls
  • Participating in ad-hoc projects, investigations and/or any other required activities including Sox 302 & 404 activities.
  • As required, providing assistance to external auditors during their interim and annual reviews of the company.
  • As a global resource, participating in audit assignments as required in any location.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

Required:

  • 1+ year of experience in audit.
  • Technical, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to interface and build professional relationships with management of the area under review within the company.
  • A basic knowledge and understanding of internal auditing standards and techniques as well as general accounting methods, principles and practices.
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Detail oriented with appropriate time management skills.
  • The ability to learn and develop a competency/understanding of Aon operations including policies and procedures, and apply them to assignments.
  • Ability to work independently.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of agile auditing concepts.
  • Knowledge of data analytics and visualization techniques.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or comparable business degree. Professional designations/certifications, such as Certified Public Accountant/Chartered Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, etc, are preferred

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $70,000 - $84,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Chicago, Illinois The actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
