The Opportunity:

We seek a postdoctoral researcher within the Department of Physics at the University of Central Florida. The postdoc will be advised by Dr. Kerri Donaldson Hanna and will work within her research group and have access to her laboratory facilities. Donaldson Hanna's research focuses on understanding the formation and evolution of Solar System planetary bodies using laboratory and spacecraft techniques. This includes the characterization of analog materials in the laboratory to interpret telescopic and spacecraft-based remote sensing observations. For this position, we seek someone with expertise in analyzing and characterizing samples from planetary bodies including asteroids and the Moon and linking those characterizations to observations of those bodies.

Responsibility:

In addition to conducting independent research, the postdoc will be expected to teach one physics or astronomy course (see preferred qualifications for list of possible courses) during UCF's fall and spring semesters. Additional expectations include:
1) Communicate research results in scholarly publications and scientific meetings.
2) Participate in weekly group meetings.
3) Mentor PhD and undergraduate students.
4) Contribute to the writing of NASA proposals.

This is a 12-month position with possibility of renewal pending funding and satisfactory performance and pays $60,000 annually.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Planetary Sciences, Planetary Geology, Physics, Astronomy or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

We look to recruit a postdoc that has had some amount of teaching experience (e.g., university lectures, TA experience including lab courses) and would be capable of teaching courses including Introduction to Astronomy (AST2002), Solar System Astronomy (AST3110), Planetary Geophysics (AST4152), Asteroids Comets Meteorites (AST4142), Life in the Universe (AST2037), Experimental Methods in Astronomy (AST4700), and Earth's Climate (MET2104).
