Job Summary

Supervise the accounting activities within a large and/or organizationally complex unit. Areas of responsibility typically include budgets, financial/accounting reporting, sponsored project accounting and financial records maintenance. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing performance, providing feedback and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Institute and unit management, auditors, budget personnel, unit accounting staff members. This position typically will advise and counsel: unit management and accounting staff. This position will supervise: unit accounting staff members.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Supervise/coordinate the formulation and administration of unit(s) budget; prepare financial forecasts.

Job Duty 2 -
Oversee preparation and distribution of unit financial reports.

Job Duty 3 -
Oversee maintenance of accounting and financial records including chart of accounts.

Job Duty 4 -
May supervise accounting related activities associated with sponsored projects to include establishment through closeout.

Job Duty 5 -
Administer and interpret Institute and unit accounting policies and applicable regulatory guidelines.

Job Duty 6 -
May review and approve incoming and outgoing invoices.

Job Duty 7 -
Organize unit accounting staff, define responsibilities, monitor and direct staff activities.

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Five years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Certifications or Licenses preferred for this job: CPA

Preferred experience with profit and loss statements. Experience with monthly, quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, annual unrelated business taxable income reporting. Knowledge of proper daily cash/payment reconciliation, refunds, etc. from Banner receipts to workday general ledger. Highly skilled user of Banner system, skilled user of TouchNet information system and skilled user of workday financials.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate within all levels of the organization, strong analytical skills, self-starter with willingness to take ownership of a problem until solved. Experience with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) with emphasis on section 31.2 and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires the application of accounting principles and practices, especially as they relate to academic administration, fund management and project accounting. Additional requirements include budget administration; knowledge and application of government accounting rules and regulation; supervisory skills and communications.

Anticipated annual salary $61,759.00 to $83,991.00 commensurate with qualifications.
