Position Summary
Manual and semi-skilled routine work in the performance of food service duties. Employees apply skills and knowledge that are acquired through experience. This work involves the preparation and service of food and the cleaning and sanitation of equipment and facilities. Duties include cooking and preparing food, safety and sanitation techniques involving methods of maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food quality and presentation; and for assuring that patrons are served in a pleasant and courteous manner. Assignments are received in the form of specific oral and written instructions and are reviewed by inspection and observation of results obtained. This position reports to the 4-H Dining Commons Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Plan and organize routine work details.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods and practices of food preparation and service.
  • Understand, follow, and adjust basic recipes.
  • Some knowledge of hazards to health in food preparation, service, and necessary precautionary measures.
  • Some knowledge of the care and uses of food service equipment and kitchen utensils.
  • Good communication skills that contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to be flexible in hours worked.
  • Ability to learn HACCP and food safety plans, and assist in monitoring for compliance.

Physical Demands
Bend at the waist and knees, lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs., stand for prolonged periods of time, and work with arms and hands overhead. Work in and around heat of kitchen and appliances in use, and in cold coolers/freezers when storing and retrieving stock. Driving as needed to perform job related duties.
