Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD)staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our IC, DoD, and civilian customers.

As part of ISCD, the Software Architecture and Engineering Department (SAED) develops and applies methods and tools to conceptualize, build, and deploy secure, resilient, and adaptable software-reliant capabilities and systems. We are seeking a software systems architect/engineer to join us as we work with our customers to conceive, develop, and field critical capabilities for a variety of national security missions. As an experienced professional with a strong technical background, you will develop model-based engineering approaches to illuminate performance and quality characteristics of cyber-physical system architectures, evaluate software engineering environments and practices for agile and DevSecOps projects, conduct studies and analyses focused on software aspects of integrating cutting-edge technologies into critical system architectures, develop techniques and tools to advance software architecture practice and analysis capabilities, and prepare and brief findings. Your work will support Department of Defense, intelligence community, and civil agency customers as they acquire, develop, operate, and sustain nationally critical capabilities in highly contested environments. This is a full-time position based in Chantilly, VA or El Segundo, CA.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Be the go-to person for customers who need software architecture and engineering expertise, focused on Agile/DevSecOps strategies, methods, environments, and tools
  • Support development of software architecture and engineering strategies and plans for space systems and associated ground, launch, and mission processing capabilities
  • Apply model-based/digital engineering concepts and tools to software engineering, focusing on architecturally significant aspects of software and the systems/software interface
  • Evaluate and/or support development of plans for software/data modernization and migration to cloud environments
  • Research and develop modeling and visualization capabilities to enable analysis of software system architecture characteristics, e.g., security, resiliency, and adaptability
  • Develop software architecture and life-cycle engineering methods for AI/ML-based capabilities integration
  • Study emerging technologies and develop approaches to insert/pilot them in existing systems and systems in development
  • Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations to disseminate findings, guidance, and technical information to a wide audience

This position is available as a Software Architect/Engineer or a Sr. Software Architect/Engineer

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for Software Architect/Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline
  • Technical background in software engineering across the lifecycle from inception through design, construction, testing, and operations, including Agile and DevSecOps approaches
  • 8 or more years of professional experience in software development including use of modern approaches (e.g., Agile and DevSecOps) and a variety of programming languages and platforms
  • Experience using model-based system/software engineering methods, languages, and tools for software and space system architecture development and evaluation
  • Experience developing and/or evaluating cloud architectures and migrating applications and services to cloud environments
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective collaborator on diverse teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple simultaneous tasks and adapt to changing priorities
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 10%
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a active Top Secret security clearance

Minimum Requirements: Senior Software Architect/Engineer

  • All of the above requirements for Software Architect/Engineer
  • 12 or more years of professional experience in software development including use of modern approaches (e.g., Agile and DevSecOps) and a variety of programming languages and platforms
  • 8 or more years of experience with government acquisition of software-reliant systems
  • Software architecture and engineering research expertise
  • Willingness to mentor junior staff to advance their technical and professional skills

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree from an accredited program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline
  • Experience with software measurement and quality attribute trade-off analysis
  • Experience with data modeling and data-centric architectures
  • Awareness and use of techniques to assess software and system architectures for cyber resiliency and security
  • Knowledge of digital engineering and related concepts, methods, and tools
  • Skills in developing and evaluating artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) applications and integrating AI/ML into critical/conventional system architectures

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$103,285 - $168,019 - $232,752 Pay Basis: Annual
