Financial Analyst

Johns Hopkins Public Safety is seekingFinancial Analyst to perform a variety of financial analyses to assist management in establishing financial goals and objectives and processes including but not limited to preparation of recurring financial statements for management review, participation in the creation of the annual budget, expense reconciliation and payroll management.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analysis, monitoring, reconciliation and reporting of departmental financial activity.
  • Interpret data to evaluate and determine past financial performance and/or making financial projections for management for overall business decisions.
  • Participate in budget creation and monthly budget variance analysis and forecast reporting.
  • Provide interpretation of accounts, methods and records for management.
  • Participate in monthly close process and submittal of accounting journal entries.
  • Recommend budget adjustments and other cost improvement measures.
  • Oversee simple to moderately complex budget accounts.
  • Review costs and perform cost benefit analysis for project and/or programs.
  • Partner with Sr. Finance Manager and Sr. Analyst on monthly Labor Allocation model.
  • Use SAP and other sources to collect and organize expense detail for itemized expense reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly detailed expense reports.
  • Manage bi-weekly Kronos payroll timecard review and reconciliation process.
  • Create and distribute all Payroll related reports.
  • Assist Finance/Admin team with various analysis and data collection/organization tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • General business knowledge of budgets, information systems and office management.
  • Strong technical skills (Microsoft Excel, SAP, Kronos).
  • Analytical ability to research, gather and analyze data from various sources/systems.
  • Ability to plan, organize, complete, and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to meet or exceed objectives on time or ahead of schedule.
  • Requires command of English grammar and spelling usage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external customers and handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Attention to detail and visual acuity.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
  • Three years progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
