Work Schedule:


8 am - 5 pm M-F (periodic evening or weekend activities, as needed)

Rate of Pay:


This position is a grade 20 with a minimum of $134,700 and a midpoint of 179,600. Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College's compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:



An employee in this classification performs work of considerable difficulty by serving as Chief Student Services Officer (CSSO) of the college and provides vision, leadership, management and strategic direction for services, programs, projects, administrators and support staff within the Division of Student Services and Development. Work is distinguished by working collegially and collaboratively with various departments/areas within the college as well as external constituents to provide comprehensive student services programming and resources focused on student development, engagement, learning, and success. Establishes and maintains relationships with the president, vice presidents, other deans, board members, the ECCFA foundation board, program advisory boards, administrative support staff, partners in business and industry, other college stakeholders, and other educational institutions. General direction is received from the Vice President of Teaching, Learning, and Student Development. .



Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:




  • Masters degree required in Counseling, Student Personnel, Leadership, Policy Analysis, Higher Education Administration or other related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years' of senior level administrative experience at a college or university.
  • Considerable experience hiring, training, supervising professional exempt staff, and managing in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of student affairs/student development theory and practice, organizational, governance and administrative theory and practice, particularly in higher education.
  • Comprehensive legal knowledge and practice of Higher Education Law, including case law and related compliance issues, Illinois Community College Statutes and related compliance issues, FERPA, Student Rights and Due Process, National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) regulations, State and Federal financial aid regulations, and ADA, Section 504, and other disability laws.
  • Considerable knowledge of grant management.
  • Working knowledge and awareness of student affairs' best practices, trends, and challenges.
  • Working knowledge of the threat assessment and behavioral intervention management process.
  • Considerable skills in developing, justifying and managing divisional and departmental budgets including public sector budgeting and auxilliary budgeting detail, grant writing and oversight.
  • Considerable skills in critical-thinking, analytical and problem solving required to identify gaps and overlaps between student service policies and procedures and implement processes to correct these on the policy level and on the individual student level.
  • Considerable interpersonal, verbal, presentation and written communications skills with the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of staff, faculty, administration and stakeholders in a diverse community.
  • Considerable skill in working collaboratively and to build teams with administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrated respect for the teaching, learning, and evaluation process.
  • Demonstrated success as a culturally competent professional with experience interacting with and supporting the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion..

Essential Duties:




  • Provide leadership and guidance in analysis, review, creation and interpretation of college policies and administrative procedures that promote student success; Accountable for compliance with federal, state and college policies and regulations; Advocate for and represent the division and its needs by presenting relevant data and serving on various college committees; Produce and contribute to college written reports and updates related to correspondence required by state and federal agencies; Establish collaborative relationships with college constituents to help achieve the mission vision, and strategic goals of the College. Promote a campus environment of equity and inclusion for all students. Oversee the joint agreement program, Standards of Academic Progress (SOAP), the Center for Advanced Study, and more.
  • Evaluate the interdependencies and shared objectives among division programs ensuring alignment with TLSD goals. Provide direction to the departments/areas and staff and administrators to foster collaboration and identify opportunities for process improvements; Assist with departmental program reviews and use information from program review to inform annual goals and improve programming; Review and provide feedback on and assess status of annual area goals; Identify human resource and technological gaps to in order to provide more efficient services to students.
  • Serve as a resource to college faculty, staff and administrators in dealing with student concerns in and out of the classroom; Provide direction and intervention for students in crisis and non-crisis; Consult with Risk Mgmt. and the college's legal counsel on reducing liability to the college especially in the area of athletics, disability services and student life.
  • Supervise and evaluate direct reports within the division offering constructive feedback to enhance their professional development; Expose staff to skills and knowledge required of student affairs professionals via membership in professional organizations and/or discussion of student affairs and higher education literature.
  • Administration of Collective Bargaining Agreements.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
