Position Summary

Under general direction from the Director for Grounds and Custodial Services, the Custodial manager is responsible for supervising and administering the day to day custodial operation that includes daily and weekly planning and coordinating all cleaning services. The incumbent works independently scheduling, assignment, inspecting, and evaluating the work of others, ensuring that facilities are cleaned and well-maintained. The incumbent may oversee the work activities of evening and weekend shifts with the authority to make needed changes to accomplish cleaning maintenance goals, taking operational charge of the department in the absence of the Director.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,375 per month. Initial appointment not anticipated to exceed $5,375 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,938 per month - $11,703 per month

Work Hours:

Day Shift Custodial Manager: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., with the ability to work early morning hours, extended afternoons, and weekends.

Night Shift Custodial Manager: Monday - Friday 3:30 p.m. - 12:30 a.m., with the ability to work early morning hours, extended afternoons, and weekends.

Department Information

Custodial Services is responsible for cleaning activities in all general-fund supported university facilities. This professional staff maintains a safe and healthy setting for students, faculty, staff and guests in pursuit of our education mission. Typical services include:
  • Carpet cleaning & spot removal
  • Sanitizing
  • Floor care
  • Stocking sanitary supplies
  • Collecting and disposing of refuse
  • Emergency cleanups

Day Shift Custodial Manager Required Qualifications
1. Thorough knowledge of custodial equipment and the ability to teach and train a large diverse staff on the proper and safe use of associated equipment.

2. Must have thorough knowledge of modern custodial cleaning methodologies/operations and the ability to teach and train a large diverse work force.

3. Must possess a valid California Driver's License, a safe driving record, and must possess the ability to follow all campus driving ordinances.

4. Must have working knowledge of desktop PC software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and email, and thorough knowledge of the maintenance management system (AiM), which includes work order creation, closing and current schedule monitoring.

5. Must be able to communicate and follow instructions, to include instructions on daily calendars, space reservations forms, communication logs, IIPP Safety information, work orders, product labels, MSD sheets, schedules and job descriptions.

6. Must be able to work collaboratively with a diverse campus community of students, faculty and staff.

7. Must be able to communicate effectively using all available technology.

8. Must be able to remain calm and poised even during stressful situations.

9. Must possess excellent customer service skills.

10. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.

Preferred Qualifications

11. Extensive knowledge in custodial cleaning methodologies/operations; solving problems; understanding workflow procedures, encouraging staff.

12. Ten (10) years of custodial experience

Night Shift Custodial Manager

Required Qualifications

1. Thorough knowledge of custodial equipment and the ability to teach and train a large diverse staff on the proper and safe use of associated equipment.

3. Possession of a valid Driver's License, ability to maintain a safe driving record, and must possess the ability to follow all campus driving ordinances.
