Job Description:

POSITION: Faculty, PCIT (Process Control & Instrumentation Technology)
STATUS: Full time Tenure track
DEPARTMENT: Technical
DIVISION: Academic Affairs
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
UNION: Faculty
REPORTS TO: Department Chair
PLACEMENT: Placement on salary schedule is dependent on qualifications.
MINIMUM PAY RATE: Qualifications include education and related work experience.

POSITION SUMMARY
Adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive attitude. Fifteen credit hours a semester constitute a standard load. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teach at least a minimum course load each semester during fall and spring semesters to include early morning classes, day classes and evening classes. Classes will be primarily in our PCIT program but may also include our Electronic/Electrical Automated Systems (EEAS) program.
2. Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.
3. Participate in course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities.
4. Be willing to teach online and/or blended courses.
5. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.
6. Assist students with academic advising.
7. Assist with or coordinate program responsibilities.
8. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
9. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
10. Teach at other campus sites as needed.
11. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate's degree in Process Control & Instrumentation or related field and/or equivalent education, training and experience.
2. A minimum of 1 year of work experience with process control equipment in an industrial environment.

3. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

4. Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's Degree in any discipline, preferably education or engineering.
2. A minimum of 7 years of work experience with process control equipment in an industrial environment.
3. Experience in the design, selection, installation, calibration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and hands on repair of:

  • a. automation equipment such as process control systems (DCS and/or PLC based controllers) utilized to control the operation of a process
  • b. process instrumentation for the measurement of flow, level, pressure, temperature, and analytical process conditions and the different technologies utilized to measure these processes
  • c. modulating control and on/off valves of different type and manufacturer
  • d. industrial controls such as timers, relays and motor starters
  • e. advanced analytical instrumentation (analyzers)
  • f. network communications (Ethernet, Profibus, Modbus, Wireless, etc...)
  • g. safety instrumented systems (SIS)
  • h. capital project engineering practices.
  • i. maintenance reliability and planning

4. Experience at the community college level including teaching or equivalent industry training experience.
5. Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service.
6. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.

7. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

8. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Normal classroom physical demands plus maintaining/relocating modular lab equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Classroom and lab teaching environment.
