Tenure Track Faculty - Asian Art History Job No: 532954 Work Type: Instructional Faculty - Tenured/Tenure-Track Location: Sacramento Categories: Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association, Faculty - Fine/Performing Arts, Tenured/Tenure-Track, Full Time COLLEGE: College of Arts and Letters DEPARTMENT: Art POSITION TITLE: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Art History: Asian Art History DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: Through courses, exhibitions, lectures, and public programs, the Department of Art at Sacramento State provides an environment in which students become the next generation of artists, scholars, and educators. The department also serves the larger university student population through a robust series of introductory courses geared towards a lifelong appreciation of the arts. The Department's curriculum is global in scope, with programs that are oriented towards creativity and critical thinking. Students make and study art through art education, art history, and studio art: ceramics, new media art, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and interdisciplinary media. The Department of Art serves as a significant cultural resource in the region through its art exhibits, workshops, lectures, and symposia. In alignment with the university's Anchor Initiative, the department extends its influence out into the community through the involvement of its faculty, staff, and students in public art projects, K-12 student outreach, and partnerships with cultural organizations. Internship opportunities exist with the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, and other public and private art institutions and galleries in the capital region. The Faculty-Led Study Abroad program enables students to study art on site in short-term international programs that are led by department faculty. Longer-term study abroad opportunities are available through Sacramento State's Office of International Programs & Global Engagement. Sacramento State is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). POSITION DETAILS: The Art Department at Sacramento State seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Asian Art History with a research emphasis before 1850. Our department invites applications from dynamic instructors capable of implementing innovative high-impact pedagogies that will engage our students in the study of art history and help develop the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills of both General Education students and Art majors. The ideal candidate is a scholar who centers concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice in their research, teaching, and service. We welcome candidates who will support and expand the Art History program's efforts to create a globally oriented art history curriculum, decentering the traditional European canon in favor of art histories that highlight artists of different races, genders, and nationalities/cultural origins. We seek an expert in the history of Asian art, with the potential to teach introductory surveys that introduce students to the breadth of Asian art and advanced courses that reflect the Sacramento region's diverse Asian communities, particularly in areas that are often neglected in the history of Asian art (e.g., South Asia, Southeast Asia, and/or Central Asia). As a member of the Art Department, the hire will collaborate with colleagues in Art History, Art Education, and Studio Art, as well as with Asian Studies faculty across campus, in various service roles and as a part of University projects such as the Anchor University Initiative. The classification annual salary range for this position is $64,860 - $143,928; the anticipated annual starting salary is $74,642. JOB DUTIES:
