Position Summary

The SATOPS Tier 3 technician provides support to the USSOCOM J6 for the tracking, troubleshooting, and coordination for all things satellite communications (SATCOM) systems related to the environment, topology, and architecture of tactical systems supporting deployed users. Your main job duties involve the operation of mission-critical management tools that require expertise beyond a Tier 1 and 2 Technician's level of knowledge and skill. You will be required to have a thorough understanding of the SDN transport topology, asset and resource management, employed technologies, operating procedures, and policies. You will take part in mission planning, conferences, and document writing involving SATCOM systems as required by the Customer.

Primary & Essential Accountabilities



  • Kratos SatMonics Spectrum Management Platform Installation and Administration to include, but not limited to:

    • Database configurations of SatMonics
    • Calibration and auditing of SatMonics database
    • Troubleshooting SatMonics issues


  • Solarwinds Network Management System including, but not limited to:

    • Installation of Solarwinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
    • Build network topology maps within Solarwinds
    • Manage Solarwinds object licensing


  • Windows 10 and Server 2012R2 administration
  • Active Directory Group Policy implementation
  • Perform Desktop support duties as necessary
  • General Server and Application Management
  • Assist with the administration and management of SDN and AISR operation centers specific applications
  • Point of contact for SDN and AISR operations centers IT systems/service management request and changes
  • Contribute to operational planning, and improvement, by developing new policies and procedures
  • Maintain consistent & open communication with Site Lead to inform on all operational issues, troubleshooting efforts, and solutions
  • Work with planners and Tier 3 technicians on Authorized Service Interruptions, (ASI), coordination and execution, network investigations, network changes, reports, etc.
  • Assist iDirect Tier 3 SMEs with the following: (not exhaustive)

    • test and evaluation of systems and network configuration
    • VSAT terminal characterization
    • engineering support
    • daily operational support of iDirect Technologies hubs and remote systems


  • Participate in the research, evaluation, and selection of new SATCOM management technologies
  • Prepare reports documenting utilization levels, failure rates, or other statistical reports as directed
  • Analyze complex communication systems, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting operating systems and protocol suites, and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges, and other devices
  • Resolve difficult interoperability problems to obtain operation across all platforms including e-mail, files transfer, multimedia, teleconferencing and the like
  • Configure systems to user environments
  • Support acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services
  • May act as a technical project leader or provide work leadership for lower level employees
  • May provide written technical descriptions and contribute in the development of technical solutions in support of proposal efforts
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Attend appropriate engineering, Customer, or business meetings



Qualification Requirements



  • Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of experience,or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Common knowledge of the SATCOM Special Operations Forces Tactical Assured Connectivity System (SOFTACS), and Product Distribution System (PDS) family of terminals (FoT)
  • Candidate must have a Top Secret (TS) Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Must have 8750 IAT II certification or obtain within 3 months after beginning work in the position
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
