Salary:

Responsible for maintenance activities as assigned, such as A/C, electric, plumbing, and painting/drywall.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing pipes, fixtures, and other apparatuses of water, heating, gas and/or sewage systems. Additionally responsible for performing various mechanical tasks; conducting and maintaining comprehensive preventative/predictive maintenance programs: troubleshooting, repairing and enhancing the building of this facility in accordance with the mission statement of Metropolitan Ministries.

  • Operate tools associated with trade: small trenchers, pipe cutters, reamers, threaders, sewer snakes, cables, soldering torches and various other hand tools.
  • Configure, install, repair and maintain manual and electric irrigation systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair underground piping, electric and manual valves, and electrical and computerized timing clocks.
  • Maintain and repair electric and gas hot water heaters, water softeners and filtration systems.
  • Be willing and able to perform other required maintenance tasks including but not limited to:
  • Carpentry
  • HVAC, DX, air handler and window units
  • Building structure, floor repairs and installation
  • Wall preparations and covering; doors,
  • Door locks and window repair
  • Warehousing needs
  • Landscaping efforts,
  • Special event organizing
  • Relocation of appliances and furniture as required.
  • Successfully instruct and/or attend required training courses.Attend continuing education events and seminars as required by management.
  • Locate and retrieve various supplies, parts, and building materials as needed to complete assigned projects.
  • Support the Holiday Center and other Ministry events as directed.
  • Support the team in other tasks as assigned. Meet personal goals and actively contributes to the achievement of team and organizational targets/goals as stated on the Balanced Scorecard and in the annual plan. Demonstrate a passion for the mission, vision, and guiding values of Metropolitan Ministries, and works in a cooperative manner within the organization to achieve the organization's goals.
Requirements

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED completed. Minimum of two years in general maintenance experience. Knowledge and experience in mechanical systems, blueprints, tools associated with trade and operating hand held power tools. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle weighing up to 2.5 tons.

Skill Requirements:
This position requires the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary framework; must be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office. Must be willing to be cross-trained and utilized throughout the operations department. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, orally as well as in writing. Must demonstrate a heart for the ministry of serving poor and homeless families. The position requires a degree of maturity, sensitivity to issues of faith, cross cultural and diversity issues, and the social skill to handle job-related matters in a professional and diplomatic manner.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to tolerate outdoor temperatures consistent with Florida climate and endure prolonged standing/walking/bending/stooping and stretching. Must be able to tolerate various temperatures consistent with outside seasonal changes and with refrigeration/freezer cold storage units. Must be able to work in areas with low or no lighting. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs regularly. Must be able to calculate mathematical equations as needed for maintenance purposes. Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more.

Other:
Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must pass required background pre-employment screening. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Requires a valid driver's license, a clean driving record and the ability to qualify for the Ministries' driving program. Must adhere to the policies and procedures of the ministry; Must be able to work flexible schedules during the holiday season (October-December) and special events. Must be on call for maintenance emergencies and be willing to work alternate shifts.
