Education and Work Experience:



  1. Education: High School Diploma or GED
  2. Work/Professional Experience: Three years driving experience. Prior experience interacting with the public (donors) in a professional and courteous manner. Experience in use of cleaning materials and products.
  3. Required: Valid Driver's License and the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check. Must also be able to pass Salvation Army Driver Training Course.


Scope of Position: The position is responsible for driving to pick up donations and for errands associated with be business of the Corps. Set up and tear down rooms for different corps programs, perform light maintenance, and janitorial work in the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Perform general buildings maintenance; including but not limited to, changing lightbulbs, replenishing bathroom and sanitation supplies, cleaning surface areas, and other areas of concern in the buildings or vehicles as defined by the immediate supervisor.
  • General upkeep of buildings grounds; including but not limited to, picking up trash, sweeping entry ways and clearing debris.
  • Organize storage and cleaning areas.
  • Maintain a list of chemicals and cleaning supplies needed to clean and sanitize the facility and fleet vehicles.
  • Open and close the buildings as needed for early morning or late-night cleaning or preparation projects.
  • Be aware and maintain a record of safety and practices for both vehicles and properties.
  • Report any problems or concerns regarding the vehicles or buildings to the immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain buildings and vehicles safety as determined by The Salvation Army, State of Oregon, or Federal Agencies (i.e., OSHA)
  • Assist with upkeep and maintenance of the corps vehicles.
  • Attending staff meetings assigned.
  • Work with other staff on projects and events throughout the year (room setup/teardown, clean up, transportation, etc.)
  • It is impossible to predict the many requests and assignments that can and will be made on an employee. This is the case for this position. Cooperation and a corporate spirit are crucial characteristics of the person who holds this important position and for the successful operation of The Salvation Army's services.


Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to drive a box truck, mini-van, and small size passenger bus (non-CDL).
  • Lift 50 lbs.
  • Move up to 100 lbs. on hand truck.
  • Day and night driving in all kinds of weather conditions.


Working Conditions:



  • Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • May frequently be exposed to standing and/or sitting for long periods of time, as well as bending, stooping twisting and stretching.
  • Requires the ability to grasp with hands and fingers and lift up to 50 lbs. by hand.
  • May possibly be exposed to communicable diseases and bloodbourne pathogens.
  • Exposure to caustic and non-caustic chemicals and materials.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn because of the presence of irritant and toxic chemicals, substances, and physical hazards common to this type of work.
  • Works out of doors frequently and at times will be exposed to inclement weather.
  • Requires the ability to climb into, load, unload, and drive a large single axle truck.
  • Involves contact with diverse clientele, including persons who are angry confused, or frustrated.


MISCELLANEOUS:

The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.

The Salvation Army facility and vehicles provide a smoke and drug free work environment for all employees and volunteers.
