Epilepsy Neurology Nurse Practitioner II (NURSE PRACT 2)

This position is a part of the Epilepsy Neurology care team. The role involves serving the inpatient populations within a physician-led practice. The APP will serve in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and act as an Epilepsy surgery coordinator to ensure that patients have streamlined access to the EMU. The APP will also execute care plans that are defined by the attending Epileptologist(s) on service. The APPs are responsible for providing comprehensive care to EMU patients, including those with intracranial electrodes for seizure localization. The duties include admission, progress, interrogation/programming of neurostimulator, and discharge exams/notes, under the supervision of the epileptologist. As a first contact or consultant for managing EMU patients with nursing and other healthcare workers, the APP will direct day to day care of the EMU patients and supervise learners enrolled in the APP Neurology Fellowship and rotate in the EMU service. The position may also float on the inpatient Neurology service to support attending neurologists, depending on the caseload. In the ambulatory setting, the duties include hospital follow-up visits and screening visits for Epilepsy patients.

To provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical expertise to patients and their families on an on-going basis. This includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy) as defined by standardized procedures or independently based on licensure. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions will be independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. NP's are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents and other ancillary staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• One (1) year or greater experience as a Neurology nurse practitioner required
• Graduation with a master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
• California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License
• California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
• National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area
• Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakers
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients
• Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role
• Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) year or greater recent clinical experience in Neurology highly preferred.
• Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) for pediatric population
